NorthStar Foundation focuses on the critical, unmet needs of North Omaha’s young men,
beginning in third grade, with the goal of helping them grow into healthy, educated, employed
contributors to the community. NorthStar is the only single-sex, male afterschool program in
Greater Omaha and serves boys in grades 3–12.

The Development Associate supports the growth and sustainability of NorthStar Foundation by
managing donor engagement, maintaining accurate and organized development systems, and
supporting fundraising campaigns and events. This role plays a key part in strengthening donor
relationships, expanding community giving, and ensuring NorthStar has the resources needed to
advance its mission. The Development Associate maintains donor records in Virtuous CRM,
supports donor communications and stewardship, assists with philanthropic campaigns and
events (including Climb Higher Luncheon), and leads coordination of the volunteer program in

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Fundraising Campaigns & Events (40%)

  • Support planning and execution of fundraising events and campaigns.
  • Assist with fundraising events, including the Climb Higher Luncheon, as needed.
  • Coordinate event logistics and timelines, including vendor/volunteer support as assigned.
  • Support smaller donor cultivation and engagement events as needed.

Donor Data & Development Operations (25%)

  • Maintain and update the Virtuous CRM system with accurate, timely data entry and reporting.
  • Process donations and support timely gift entry and acknowledgments.
  • Prepare materials for donor meetings and presentations (briefs, packets, and supporting documents).
  • Support donor communications and stewardship through the CRM system, including newsletter design, donor acknowledgments, contribution updates, and mailings.

Development Administrative Support (20%)

  • Perform prospect research and analysis for prospective donors and sponsors; collaborate with the Development Team on fundraising strategy.
  • Create monthly fundraising reports, mailing lists, and dashboards.
  • Prepare agendas, notes, and follow-up items for development meetings as needed.
  • Assist with administrative tasks that support development workflow and team goals.

Volunteer Program Management (15%)

  • Lead and coordinate NorthStar’s volunteer program, serving as the primary point of contact for volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and retention.
  • Connect volunteers to opportunities across NorthStar programs and events.
  • Develop and implement volunteer recognition efforts that celebrate contributions and foster long-term engagement.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records and communications through the CRM system.

Marginal Duties

  • Represent NorthStar Foundation at community tabling events and outreach activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Development department and organizational mission.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (communications, nonprofit management, business, or similar) required, or 2–3 years of equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience with donor databases/CRM systems; Virtuous CRM experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills for engaging vendors, team members, donors, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills; ability to present information concisely and effectively.
  • Self-starter who anticipates needs, takes initiative, and uses a solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to handle confidential donor and organizational information with discretion, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Basic design skills using Canva (or similar platforms) preferred.
  • Willingness to learn, grow, and contribute to a positive workplace culture.

Compensation

$24 - $26 per hour

Physical and Environmental Conditions Work is typically performed in an office environment
with significant public interaction, both in person and by phone. Hours may vary seasonally and
include evenings or weekends during peak fundraising periods and events. Travel within the
community and use of a personal vehicle may be required. Occasional light lifting (30–50 lbs.)
may be necessary.

 

Compensation

$24 - $26 per hour
